Content Information Ikusasa LeAfrika Foundation will hold its Annual Dr Zweli Mkhize Soccer Tournament Final as well as the Willowfountain Rural Horse Racing Day this weekend. The festive season is a time where most young people are left with no activities as schools and tertiary institutions are closed. This exposes them to activities like drugs, sex and crime. The Dr Mkhize Football Tournament provides the ideal programme for this period where youth engage in physical activities that will take them off the streets, reduce petty crime, drug abuse and also create a platform for parents and leaders to impart to the youth. This will also enable them to mentor and guide the youth and create a peaceful festive season. The Dr Zweli Mkhize Soccer Tournament is scheduled between all 39 wards of Msunduzi Municipality over 6 days. Rural horse racing is a 100 year old sport and has managed to break down tribal and political barriers by bringing together rural people with a passion for horses and riding. Last year, the event attracted over 80 participants from the Free State, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga as well as neighbouring countries.  Chairman of the Ikusasa Le Africa foundation, Dr Zweli Mkhize said the event has the potential to unite people from different communities. He also said the sport brought together families as rural horse racing had everything to do with family pride.  “This race has the potential to grow into one of the largest races in the country and will ensure economic development in the rural economy, creating jobs and providing a livelihood for young people,” Mkhize said.  The event also aims at inspiring riding enthusiasts. Last year’s winner was 9 year old Jo Gama who began riding when he was just 5 years old.
