Content Information
The Interview was conducted in Willowfountein (KwaMafu area) at Mr. Khiphambu Bhekinkosi Mkhize. The interview was conducted at 14:30pm on Tuesday, 24 October 2017. Mr. Bhekinkosi Mkhize states that Willowfountein was originally a farm of Mr. D.T Hall (They called him “Bhakabha”). Mr. D.T Hall later rented the land to other farmers. The school KwaMshengu was a source of labor for farmers. One had to work at the farm for six months and those who refused were detained. The arrival of Mr. Zazi Khuzwayo (farmer from Clermont, Durban) rented a piece of land from Mr. D.T Hall. He burnt people’s houses that were at the plot he was to rent. After the land was allocated to the community, Mr. Harry Gwala arrived and stated that Willowfountein was under African National Congress control. ANC took its members that were running away from political violence in other places to Willowfountein. Some sections in Willowfountein are named after the original name of the places where all the people were coming from to seek refugee.
